PB’s & Prizes galore!!!
This time of year marks the start of the autumn marathon/half marathon season & 14 runners from the Club lined up on Sunday with thousands of others on the start lines for the Robin Hood Marathon/Half Marathon. Two runners, Gary Price & Nikki Reeves, tackled the full distance & for Gary it was the joy of dipping under 4 hours for the first time with a PB of 3.57:04. For Nikki it was a different challenge after an injury & illness hampered season & in the circumstances she should be pleased with a chip time of 5.12:53. 12 Club members tackled the half marathon distance & many took advantage of the warm, but otherwise superb running conditions, to record PB’s for the distance. Leading the way was Andy Hawtin, whose 1.22.14 smashed his PB. Paul & Shane Chapman, who also recorded PB’s of 1.25.41 & 1.25.57 respectively, were next to finish which meant the Club had 3 top 150 finishers out of the 7130 who completed the race.  The next two home were Christian Glover & Christina Cooper who both shattered their PB’s in returning superb times of 1.28:39 & 1.29:19.
Katie Cotton ran well for her 1.37:02 while Tracey Glover, who has had a superbly consistent season, stopped the clock at 1.42:49.  Ashley Parkes was next across the busy finishing line in a hard run PB of 1.44:30 while Kelly Knight, was justifiably pleased with her 1.47.36 after an injury blighted season. Laura Storer’s 1.50.08 just missed her PB while Cheryl Bell’s 1.55.08 & Jenny Tattersall’s 2.11.08 were considerable improvements on their previous marks for the distance. The battling duo of Carolyn Ife & Cath Johnson completed a very rewarding race for the Club’s athletes with chip times of 2.23.10 & 2.56:26 respectively.
The presentation of the Burton & District Summer League prizes took place at Marston Sports & Social Club on Friday night and the number of award recipients from the Club emphasised what terrific progress the Club has made in a relatively short period of time. Both men’s & women’s teams took 1st place team prizes across the 8 race series while individually Christina Cooper took 1st place in the senior women category with Katey Cotton a well deserved 2nd in this category. It was a clean sweep in the VL35 class with Tracey Glover, Nikki Reeves & Sam Skidmore taking the 3 awards on offer. Inge Moore received recognition for her tremendous efforts across the series with 3rd place in the VL55 category. Not to be out done by the Club’s women Dominic Sharman took 2nd place in the very competitive MV40 class while Chris Mason’s efforts secured him the 1st MV60 prize. Andy Orme, Andy Hawtin, Colin Mee, Tracey Glover & Sam Skidmore were also deservedly recognised for competing in all of the series 8 races.
