Twelve take the challenge!!
A week after the London Marathon & the morning after many had attended the wedding celebrations of Andy & Chrissie, 12 runners from the Club tackled one of the most challenging half marathons on the local circuit, the Uttoxeter Half Marathon. The race was also the second race in this year’s Burton & District Summer League and there were some tremendous performances from some of the Club’s stalwart, but less heralded performers. Leading the way was Shane Chapman, who confirmed his excellent current fitness by recording a superb 1.24.54 for a brilliant 14th place out of the 267 who completed the course. After a good performance in the recent Manchester Marathon, Christian Glover showed how much he’s benefitted from the experience by recording a really creditable 1.32.59 for 35th place. Andy Orme & Steve Leafe both continued their good recent form and close rivalry by finishing in 1.33.33 & 1.34.16 & 40th and 43rd places respectively. Andy also had the satisfaction of recording a PB on this most testing of courses. There was then another close battle between Ray Udall and half marathon debutant, Tom Eyre, with Ray just edging it 1.44.19 to Tom’s 1.44.25. Both had the satisfaction of finishing in the top 100 in 97th & 99th places respectively. One of the Club’s most consistent performers, Tracey Glover, was next in 1.47.53 before husband Paul recorded an excellent PB of 1.51.05. Tim Argent, another making his debut at the distance, ran steadily for 2.01.45 with David Lunn was not far behind in 2.04.02. Richard Ward, who gives his all in every race, recorded 2.13.22 before Linda Mason completed the Club’s finishers in 2.31.58.
