Chrissie cruises to great win!!
In sultry conditions, Christina Hawtin reaffirmed her position as one of the top senior women runners in the district as she stormed to victory in Sunday’s Gate Gallop 10k. Over a multi terrain course, Christina’s 42.51 gave her victory in the women’s race & 24th place overall out of 376 finishers in the latest leg of the Burton & District Summer League. On a day when the Club’s women were to the fore Christina was also joined by Tracey Glover (49.18) & Nikki Reeves (49.27) in clinching the women’s team prize. Linda Mason (65.19) also got her reward for a terrific effort by taking the WV65 prize. There were also other strong performances from Laura Harper, Sam Skidmore, Maria Allen & Alison Shearer, who all went sub-60 on chip time, recording 53.34, 55.36, 59.22 & 59.46 respectively. Kerry Ward was next from the Club to stop the clock in the women’s race in 63.01 with the determined Linda Tempest not far behind in 68.42. Debbie Atkins & Jade Woakes, both making their championship debut for the Club, completed the Club’s finishers in the women’s race in 72.22 & 87.24 respectively.
In the absence of some of the Club’s normal high scorers in the men’s race, it was left to James Cassidy to get his reward for a season of hard work by being first back for the Club in a time of 39.04 & a superb 7th place. This was achieved after a tight battle with Andy Hawtin who finished just one place and 5 seconds behind James. After a debilitating injury, Stuart Halsey continued his comeback, with a well-run 42.27 for 22nd place before Andy Orme (43.29) & Steve Leafe (44.02) continued their season long battle for 28th & 35th places respectively. Adrian Middleton, probably put in the performance of the day, in recording 46.37 getting the better, on this occasion, of Christian Glover’s 47.05. Malcolm Moore ran well for 49.01 before there was a titanic battle between Paul Glover & Mitch Timms who were separated by one place & a second in chip times of 49.20 & 49.21 respectively.  There was also little between Ricardo Paiva (52.21), Tim Argent (52.48), Steve Tempest (53.17) & Wayne Kelleher (53.55) before another epic battle between championship rivals David Lunn & Richard Ward, with both given the same chip time of 55.03. Championship newcomer, Stuart Reeves, stopped the clock in 59.51 before Chris Morton completed the Club’s finishers in the men’s race in 62.57.
