“Not such nice weather for ducks.”
On the hottest day of the year so far, 6 SDRR runners ventured across to Wymesworld, to take on the Wymeswold Waddle. A five mile out-and-back race taking place before the “famous” Leicestershire duck races on a course described as “uphill on the way out, and uphill on the way back” by many members of the club!
First home for the club, having an excellent run, and gaining a 48 second PB in the process was Simon Reynolds (32.11). Second back was Andy Orme, finishing the race in 33.17 – more than a minute ahead of “first duck” and Glenn Smith was third home for the club in 35.58. Karen Wilks (40.15) and Robin Thorne (40.20) battled it out in a close race, having conditioned themselves well for the scorching heat with their recent holiday runs. Kat Smith completed the clubs finishers in 47.44.
More importantly, the first duck race was won by the white duck, although Simon had to leave this early as he couldn’t take the excitement at the speed of the race!
