Chris out in front again!!!
25 runners from the Club made the short trip to Derby on Sunday to take part in the Shelton Striders 10k. In excellent running conditions Chris Pearson moved one step closer to winning this year’s Men’s Club Championship as he led the Club’s contingent home in a superb chip time of 35:51 for 11th place overall and 2nd place, in the ultra-competitive MV40 category. Rob Eaton again performed with credit as he stopped the clock in 36:49 for 17th place. Stuart Halsey continued his wonderfully consistent season as he recorded 39:46 for 3rd place in the MV50 category. Matt Clemson was one of three of the Club’s runners to record a PB for the distance as his 40:49 gave him 56th place overall.   Glenn Smith again ran well for his 41:12 before Kelly Knight closed in on the Club’s Women’s Championship as she finished 6th in the women’s race in an excellent 41:56. Nigel Atkins, one of the Club’s most improved runners, recorded a 42:08 PB here. Jenny Laing continued her comeback to racing with an excellent 42:18 and 7th place in the women’s race. Chris Gunstone, racing again after a long break, recorded 43:22 before Steve Leafe completed the Club’s finishers in the top hundred with a very respectable 44:03. Romain Chambard recorded 44:25 before Tracey Glover continued her good recent form as she finished 3rd in the FV45 category in a chip time of 46:57. Paul Glover and Gary Price were virtually inseparable as they finished in identical ‘gun to tape’ times but with Paul just edging it on chip times of 47:10 and 47:11. Tim Argent wasn’t far behind in 47:39, a well-deserved PB for the distance. Malcolm Moore, Colin Topliss and Tony Richards gave everything in recording times of 48:45, 49:14 & 49:39 respectively. Stewart Laing, another making a welcome racing reappearance, recorded 51:52 before Robin Thorne crossed the line in 53:44. Kat Smith, Alison Shearer and Hannah Wintrip finished closely in times of 56:32, 56:45 and 57:38 respectively before Mary Sharp and Pauline Cooper battled well to complete the Club’s finishers in 60:51 and 68:43.
