Doddle for Dave!!!!
There was a great turn-out of 43 runners from the Club for the latest leg of this year’s Burton and District Summer League (BDSL), the Burton 10m. In very hot and sunny conditions both the Club’s men’s and women’s teams consolidated their positions at the top of their respective leagues and for the men, it was the third year running that they had won the team prize at this race. Leading the way home, in excellent style, was David Clarke in 6th place in 61.19 followed closely by U25 prize winner James Farmer in 7th in 62.18 and in 8th Alun Lloyd Thomas in 62.39. Andy Hawtin and John Morgan were close in 18th and 19th positions in 65.23 and 65.32 before ultra-distance specialist Andy Windle followed up an excellent performance at Uttoxeter to complete the BDSL team scorers with 67.29. Rich Miller and Ross Clarke ran well for 68.18 and 69.33 respectively before Jenny Laing continued her great recent form to finish 3rd in the women’s race and 44th overall in 70.20. Men’s Team Captain Andy Orme led by example by finishing in 72.01 before Romain Chambard and Gavin Horton, now in his third spell with the Club, had a really close battle as they stopped the clock in 72.49 and 72.53 respectively. Ellie Evans and Ian Archer also finished closely in 74.35 and 74.41 as did Andy Meadows and Mikey Walters as their times of 76.50 and 76.57 confirm. Paul Glover, who is showing great form at present, finished in 77.03 before Christina Hawtin continued her return to racing fitness with 77.33. Little separated Andy Lindley and Katie Dennis as they finished in 78.27 and 78.29 with Nigel Atkins and Tom Eyre nudging inside the top 100 finishers with 79.18 and 79.37. Tracey Glover, Elizabeth Hunt, Barry Saunders and Chris Elsegood gave everything in alien conditions to finish in 80.26, 81.16, 82.58 and 83.26 respectively. Edinburgh Marathon bound Becky Moult and James Cobb virtually crossed the line together in 86.21 and 86.22 with Dave Walters, building on a solid performance in the Stafford Half, with another good effort of 86.48. Tony Richards recorded 88.03 with Karen Wilks (94.46) getting the better of the returning MV60 Steve Fowler’s 95.25 and Mark Murkin’s 95.31. Becky Atkins battled well in the heat to cross the line in 96.48 ahead of David Lunn and Kat Smith, inseparable in 98.13 and 98.14 respectively and Alison Shearer in 103.34 and Emma Sharp in 120.37. Tom Robinson, Carolyn Ife and Sarah Walters kept each other company in the stifling conditions to finish in 125.10 and identical times of 125.11 before Club stalwart Cath Johnson completed the Club’s finishers in 126.30.
