On Sunday morning 10 runners from South Derbyshire Road Runners tuned out to run the Shelton Striders 10k race.
This was formerly known as the Merrill 10k and was largely run on the old course with the start and finish now on he canal path.
Leading home was a fast improving Andy Hawtin in a time of 38m01s for a very fine placing of 24th. Next home not far behind was Vet 55 Colin Mee, 42nd in 39m48s. This position secured Colin the 1st Male in the Vet 55 category.
Following Colin home was Steve Leafe who despite suffering from a slight cold can be pleased with his race, 67th in 42m 38s.There then followed a good battle between the next 3 club runners with Christina Cooper just edging the battle, 91st and 45m08s. Christina’s performance was good enough for her to finish 6th lady overall in a competitive field and bodes well for the future.
Following closely behind was Gary price in a new PB 96th 45m 16s who just edged out the club chairman Malcolm Moore 98th 45m 20s. However Malcolm was pleased to finish 2nd overall in the male Vet60 category. These 3 runners can look forward to some tough battles ahead between each other.
Trevor Rickman 143rd 48m52s was pleased with his improved time. Vet lady Inge Moore again put in a solid performance and was rewarded with a good time. She finished 217th 53m 40s. Tim Argent was next home, 283rd in 60m47s and with some more good training can look to better his time considerably.
Now a special mention for our club secretary Roger Barraclough who despite his recent health problems continues to be an inspiration to us all with his sheer delight and exuberance for his running 321st 71m37s.
