Women and girls participation in running is partly fuelling the current running boom and in many big races, for the first time, women’s entries outnumber those from men. Of the Club’s 36 finishers in this race 15 were women. Tracey Glover followed Nikki Reeves home in a time around 48:00. At time of writing no official time was available. Becky Atkins was 24th in 50:33 with Amy Brookes 36th in 53:23, the returning Laura Harper 38th in 53:53, Karen Wilks 49th in 56:08 and Rebecca Lenaghan 70th in 60:40. Club debutant, Sarah Walters ran well for 63:30 and 81st place as did Emily Atkins 84th in 66:04. Club Chairperson, Inge Moore gave her usual maximum effort in finishing in 68:16 as did Pauline Cooper, Alison Jackson and Cath Johnston as they stopped the clock in 69:34, 74:18 and 74:46 respectively. Cath Johnston was also a very popular and worthy winner of her age category prize.
One of the strengths of the Club’s men’s team this season has been that when some of the Club’s best runners are unavailable there has always been someone else to step up to the plate. Here current Club Champion Chris Pearson was first back in 11th place in 36:19. Gareth Watkins made a really welcome return from a niggling Achilles problem to finish 14th in 37:13 with Andy Hawtin, in a real purple patch at present, recording 37:48 with Richard Miller’s 40:38 for 37th completing the team who finished a superb 3rd place overall. Ross Clarke continued his excellent progress as he finished here in 40:44. Phil Daws and racing debutant Mikey Walters were close in 41:49 and 42:06 respectively with Andy Orme and Nigel Atkins involved in a really close inter-Club battle as they stopped the clock in 42:23 and 42:25. Steve Leafe and Colin Mee also had a close battle as they crossed the line in 42:52 and 42:59 respectively. Tom Eyre’s 43:12 was good enough to win the inter-family battle over father Dave’s 44:10. Paul Hudson, who seems to be improving with every race, was next in 46:46 giving him the edge over Paul Glover in 47:08. Kevin Clarke, is making a really welcome return to road running after a lengthy break and is also getting better with each race, recording 48:30 here. MV70 Ray Udall and Matt Murkin couldn’t be separated on time with both recording 49:12 with Tony Richards and Gary Price not far behind in 49:23 and 49:36 respectively. The redoubtable Dave Lunn recorded 51:10 with Dave Walters recording a very respectable 53:10 on his debut in the yellow vest.

Women in front again The Club’s women’s team are sweeping everything before them at present with their latest success being in Sunday’s Burton 10k.

[3

post-3535","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-race-reports","no-thumb
["GET
