In the last few days we have been made aware of the sad loss of one of the clubs longest standing members, Eddie Walker. For well over 20 years Eddie represented the club in many local races and had considerable success. In the 1990,s he was awarded life membership for his services to the club (One of only three such awards made since the club started in 1983).
In recent years Eddie suffered with Parkinson’s Disease but was very determined to carry on his running with one of his last races being the clubs own Run in the Forest about 3 years ago.
Eddie will be fondly remembered by many of his friends in the club. He will finally be laid to rest at the Bretby Crematorium on Tuesday 27th November 2012 at 11.30. A number of club members have already indicated an intention to attend so please feel free to come along and say a final farewell to a running legend within SDRR. As a mark of respect to Eddie a minutes silence will be observed at the start of club night the day after his cremation.
