South Derbyshire Road Runners had prominent representation in some of the Midlands largest races over the weekend. In good running conditions and over a relatively flat, 2 lap, 10 mile course Chris Mason, Louise Insley and Gary Price lined up with 478 others on the start line of Sneyd Striders Christmas Pudding Run.
Chris was first back in the race, which also doubled as the Midland Masters 10 mile Championship, in 64.38 and an excellent 65th place finish. Chris’s performance was also good enough to give him the 1st MV60 prize in both the main race and the Midland Masters Championship.
Not far behind was Louise, who got excellent reward for her recent hard training by finishing 79 th overall and 7th in the women’s race in a time of 66.00 minutes. Louise’s performance was also good enough to secure 1st place in the WV40 category in both the main race and the Midlands Masters Championship.
The quality of the race was emphasized by the fact that the women’s race was won by 2012 GB Olympic Triathlete, Jodie Simpson, in a superb time of 57.15.
Gary Price, who has run consistently well throughout the year, recorded 79.39 for a very creditable 252 nd place.
Mark Coombes was the Club’s only representative in a field of 860 at the Keyworth Turkey Trot Half Marathon and gave his usual gritty performance to finish in 1.41.37 and 273rd place.
