Club Members were out in force on the first Saturday of 2013 with performances that indicated they’d not over indulged over the Festive Season. It was the weekend of County Cross Country Championships across the country and Chris Mason and Louise Insley took advantage of excellent weather conditions to record superb performances over the Wollaton Park Course.
Louise ran a superb tactical race to finish very strongly in 7th place overall and 2nd WV40 in the Senior Women’s Race. Over a challenging 8000m course her time of 29.52 was also good enough to secure selection in the Derbyshire team in the upcoming Inter Counties Championship. Chris was also successful in defending his MV60 crown recording 40.45 over the 10k course to finish in 42nd place overall in the men’s race.
Club members also continue to support the Conkers Parkrun in good numbers and 13 were among a record field of 216 for the second run of the New Year. Andy Hawtin led the way home with a 2nd place 18.17 from Gerry O’Brien, 19.29 (5th), Chris Gunstone, 20.03 (9th) and Andy Orme 20.20 (10th). Steve Leafe’s PB of 20.25 and 11th place finish was the performance of the day though and a good early indication that training is going well for a planned spring marathon.
Dan Towns followed Steve home in 21.32 followed by Christina Cooper, whose 22.03, was just 11 secs outside her PB. Gary Price was next in 22.09 just edging out Malcolm Moore in 22.12.
There was then a slight gap before Susan Rowe led home Caroline Ife, Cath Johnson and Felicity Towns in times of 30.39, 32.05, 33.04 and 35.58 respectively.
