Louise leads the way
Bagworth Heath, on Sunday, was the venue for the third leg of the Derby Runner Cross Country League with 11 members from the Club lining up on the start line. In very cold, but bright weather, Louise Insley made light of the heavy conditions and undulating 5 mile plus course to record a superb 4th and 1st WV40 place finish out of 138 starters in the women’s race. For the first time in the series Louise had the company of another of the Club’s female athletes when Caroline Ife made her cross country debut for the Club for a well earned 136th place finish in the women’s race.
Leading the Club’s men home was Chris Mason who ran well for his 59th place out of 259 finishers in the men’s race. Chris’s run consolidated his place as leader of the MV60 category in the series. Chris Gunstone was next home with his 87th place finish indicating his preparation for a spring marathon is going well. Andy Orme ran well for a top 100 finish with Paul McKay, managing to shrug off recent injury problems, in 121st place some distance ahead of the returning Gavin Horton in 166th and Ray Udall in 185th places. The closest inter club racing was in the final three finishers for the Club with Adrian Middleton, Steve Fowler and Tony Phillips separated by 6 places in 209th, 212th and 215th places respectively.
The next competitive action for the Club is the first race in the Leicestershire Winter Road Running League, the Barrow 6 on Sunday 27th January 2013. Meet GBLC car park for 0900 departure.
