Andy warms up well
7 runners from South Derbyshire Road Runners AC were amongst the 900 plus starters for the 17th running of the Lichfield 10k. In very hot conditions Andy Hawtin warmed up for the forthcoming Leicester Marathon with a superb 19th place finish in 39.20. In cooler conditions and on a less undulating course Andy looks well capable of improving his PB’s over most distances by considerable margins. Chris Mason was next to finish in a slightly disappointing 41.32 but this was good enough for 42 nd place in a very big field and the 2nd V55 prize overall.
The Club performance of the day though was from Christina Cooper who ran brilliantly for 46.05 for 131st place overall and 8th place in the women’s race. After a good performance in last Wednesday’s Club Prediction Race Christina is another, who, with a bit more confidence and experience, could improve considerably in the coming months, particularly over the shorter distances. The next three to finish all managed to secure top 300 places with Dan Towns (49.27) leading the way from Kelly Knight (50.19) and Trevor Rickman (51.14). Felicity Towns completed the finishers for the Club with a hard run 69.17.
With only 2 more 2012 Club Championship races to go, Shelton Striders 10k on 7 th October and the Shepshed 7 early in November there are a number of members who need to do one or both of these races to qualify for this year’s Championship. Check the up to date tables to see whether you are in this position and lets have a good competitive end to the season.
