SDRR runners were busy during the festive period with the Club represented at the Queens Head 5k in Belper on the 27th December and the Huncote Hash on  New Years Eve, writes our man on the spot, Steve Leafe.

There were 4 runners at Belper where 2nd claimer Jack Leafe headed the Club’s finishers in 8th place in a time of 18 minutes, followed by Matt Long in 38th in a time of 20.49. Steve Leafe was next home for the Club in 55th position in 22.03, just pipping Colin Mee in 56th in 22.17. This did give Colin first place in the MV60 category.

A few days later there were a number of the Club’s runners braving one of the toughest off road routes in Leicestershire, the Huncote Hash, where there were 344 finishers over a 6.5 mile course including lots of mud, steep climbs and descents, and a run along a stream made even tougher than usual after the recent heavy rain. Tom Eyre ran brilliantly to lead the Club’s finishers, with his time of 52.03 earning him 50th position, despite a tumble into the stream late on. He was followed by Andy Orme, in 61st in 53.49, just ahead of second claimer Andy Lindley in 64th in 54.04. Colin Mee was next home for the Club in 71st position in a time of 55.15, which earned him 71stposition, comfortably ahead of Steve Leafe in 80th in a time of 56.27. Gary Price completed the club’s finishers, with a time of 65.27 gaining him a position of 156th, well in the top half of the field.
