Chappers strides away!
Sunday saw the penultimate race in the Club’s 2013 Championship, the Shelton Striders 10k. In good running conditions over a flat course Shane Chapman continued his excellent progress to be first back for the Club in a PB of 39.14 & 27th place out 361 finishers. Chris Mason finished 7 places further back in 39.49, a performance which secured him the 1st MV60 prize. Chapman senior, suffering slightly after a Parkrun PB the previous day, finished next in 49th place & a time of 40.59 with Roger Matthews, running well for 41.46 & 55th place, the next Club finisher. Andy Hawtin, after a superbly consistent season, struggled with an injury on this occasion, to cross the line in 42.01 & 61st place. Rob Lower just missed a top 100 finish but ran his usual consistent race to record 45.50 getting the better of the slowly improving Steve Fowler in 48.35.
Christina Cooper, whose excellent season was recognized by being 2nd senior woman in the 2013 Burton & District Summer Series, struggled slightly on this occasion to record 51.24 ahead of Marie York whose 52.37 indicates that she is slowly getting back her racing fitness. Dave York recorded a season’s best of 53.18 with Dave Lunn, making a useful racing debut in Club colours, next home in 54.54. Carolyn Ife gave her usual gritty performance in recording 58.41 with Cath Johnson & Roger Barraclough completing the finishers for the Club in 71.49 & 74.02 respectively.
Facing a much sterner challenge Andy Orme, Ray Udall & Gary Price lined up with thousands of others on the start line of the Chester Marathon & all three should be well pleased with excellent performances. Andy, making his debut at the distance, recorded a chip time of 3.24.07, Ray’s 3.39.18 is an excellent age related performance and Gary’s 4.09.15 was a well run PB for the distance.
