Dominic & Louise conquer Kibworth !
In near perfect running conditions 27 runners from the Club were amongst 480 others who lined up for the first race in this year’s Leicestershire Road Running Winter League, the Kibworth 6. On a course that included two of the steepest road climbs in Leicestershire, Dominic Sharman proved he is as adept on the road as he is over the country when he was first back in 27th place in a gun time of 36.20. Also making a superb racing debut on the roads Chris Pearson was next to finish in 38th place and a time of 37.00. Louise Insley, proved she is in excellent form when her chip time of 37.55 was good enough for 54th overall & 2nd place in the women’s race. 2013 Men’s Club Champion designate, Andy Hawtin, Shane Chapman, the improving Stuart Halsey, Paul Chapman & Chris Mason completed an unprecedented 8 finishers in the top 100 with times & finishing positions of 38.22 (61st), 38.56 (76th), 38.54 (79th chip time), 39.26 (88th) & 39.39 (96th) respectively. Chris’s run was good enough for 1st place in the MV60 category.
Scoring valuable team points, the ever reliable Colin Mee was next across the line in 40.56 (121st) with then something of a gap to Steve Leafe in 179th place in 42.59. MV65, Ray Udall ran his usual gritty race to finish in 44.11 with Kelly Knight, contributing to a really positive day for the Club & in particular for the Club’s women runners, with a superb gun time of 45.35 & 31st place in the women’s race. Steve Fowler pushed Kelly all of the way to finish in 45.54 with Tracey Glover, running another really strong race, to finish in 46.05 for 35th place in the women’s race. Christina Cooper, making her first racing appearance for some time, continued her rehab after injury with 46.35 & 40th place in the women’s race. Gary Price, Malcolm Moore & Club debutant Ashley Parkes all managed to conquer the twin peaks without frost bite and should be pleased with their 47.15 (276th), 47.43 (288th) & 48.12 (294th) times respectively.
Continuing her steady progress on all surfaces, Sam Skidmore was next to finish in 49.19 for 66th place in the women’s race followed by Steve Tempest in 51.55 (363rd) & Marie York in 53.28 & 66th place in the women’s race. Club Chairman Dave York, Inge Moore & Mark Skidmore were all relieved to make it back to base camp in respectable times of 56.35, 58.21 & 60.07 respectively with Linda Tempest, Cath Johnson & Roger Barraclough proving the great ambassadors they are as they completed  the Club’s finishers in 63.40, 69.19 & 75.35 respectively.
