Yellow to the fore!

There are not many local races at present were you won’t find Club colours to the fore. This weekend was no exception starting on Friday night at the Beacon Hill Solstice Race where 10 members joined 223 others in tackling this very challenging 5 mile course. Leading the way & making a really welcome competitive appearance for the Club was Gerry O’Brien who ran brilliantly for a superb 34.41 & 13th place. Not far behind was Chris Crosby, who after making a really good racing debut at last week’s Washlands Relays, continued his good form to finish in 15th place in 35.15. Also making a welcome return to competitive action was Ray Mortlock who should be well pleased with his 39.41 & 51st place. There then followed two key members of our competitive women’s team, Katie Cotton & Sam Skidmore, who ran well for 43.18 & 45.41 & finishing positions of 80th & 108th respectively. Jenny Tattersall battled well for 50.30 & 144th place before the 4 musketeers, Heidi Elliott, Jenny Thompson, Lisa Wright & Carolyn Ife were all given the same time of 1.19.01 as they crossed the line together to complete the finishers for the Club.

On Sunday 9 members tackled the Leicestershire Summer League race, the Prestwold 10k. The talk of the Garmin wearers after the race was that the course was slightly over distance at 6.3 miles. Andy Hawtin led the way in energy sapping conditions to cross the line in 51st out of a total of 520 finishers in a time of 38.35. Just missing out on the sub – 40 min benchmark was James Cassidy whose 40.15 was good enough for 67th place. Andy Orme & Stuart Halsey ran solidly for 41.54 & 42.38 respectively before Christina Cooper continued her good recent form to cross the line in 43.22. Making a really promising racing debut for the Club, Chris Hughes was next home in 44.13 before the battling Tracey Glover finished in 48.30 ahead of a solid performance from another race debutant, Paul Glover in 49.38. Maria Allen ran well in tough conditions to complete the finishers for the Club in 60.52.
