Club dominate the prizes!!!

On a day when the Burton 10k race entry maximum was reached the Club confirmed their resurgence locally by their domination of the prize list. Leading the way was the Club’s women with Louise Insley winning the women’s race in a superb 38.11 with the quickly improving Christina Cooper 3rd in 41.44 and the consistent Tracey Glover returning 45.49, which gave her the 1st FV35 prize and the 3 women an emphatic 1st place in the women’s team race. The race, the penultimate race in this year’s Burton & District Summer Road Racing League, also confirmed the Club’s women as the 1st team across the series. Not to be outdone the Club’s men also secured the men’s team prize in this race through the superb efforts of Dominic Sharman, 5th overall in 36.50, Andy Hawtin, 8th in 37.42, Chris Pearson 15th in 37.59 & the fast finishing Jack Leafe, 16th in 38.00.

All together 33 members from the Club joined 250 others on the start line to tackle a challenging course in good running conditions. Giving great support to the prize winners were Alex Black-Roberts who, despite tiring in the latter stages, still returned 38.30 & 20th place overall, James Cassidy 39.09 in 26th & Paul Chapman, just dipping under the 10k benchmark of 40 mins, with 39.58 & 31st place. 5 places separated the next 3 of the Club’s finishers in the men’s race with Chris Crosby, Andy Orme & Colin Mee running well to record times of 40.44, 41.00 & 41.06 & finishing positions of 36th, 39th & 41st respectively. Stuart Halsey & Chris Gunstone were next to finish in 50th & 54th places in times of 42.00 & 42.34 before the ‘beast’ Gavin Horton stopped the clock in 43.12. Steve Leafe was not far behind the ‘beast’ in 43.30 & 66th place with a slight gap to the hard working Mark Coombes in 45.08 & 88th place & Steve Fowler in 89th place overall in 45.25. Still within the top 100 were Gary Price, Chris Hughes & Ray Udall in 94th, 95th & 99th places & times of 46.06, 46.23 & 46.38 respectively.

A regular scorer for the women’s team & here making a welcome return after injury Kelly Knight was next in 11th place in the women’s race in 46.46 followed by Ashley Parkes, another who’s had an injury blighted season, in 49.10. The improving Paul Glover was next in 50.16 followed by Lisa Wright in 50.50 & Malcolm Moore in 51.31. Sam Skidmore ran solidly for 36th place in the women’s race in 51.34 followed by Tim Argent in 175th place overall in 52.33. There then followed Laura Storer, Inge Moore, Heidi Elliott & Christine Matthews who all ran bravely to record times of 53.01, 58.33, 70.30 & 73.14 respectively. Tremendous performances all round…..
