London Marathon Club Place Application Process
The Virgin London Marathon Race Organisers allocate club places each year to UKA affiliated clubs.
Each year SDRR will receive places depending on the number of competing members registered.
Competing members are offered these valuable place(s) and will be chosen by the Club Committee following the Application Process set out below:
- A member must have made an unsuccessful personal application in the year in question and pass their ‘London Marathon Rejection Slip’ to the UKA Club Contact or a committee member as soon as you receive it but at the latest by December.
- A member should not have received a club entry in the previous 3 years.
- A member should not have competed in the London Marathon in the previous year using an entry gained by the normal London Marathon entry form selection process.
- These three conditions will produce a ‘Short List’. The club committee will then take into account the following criteria:
a) The number of unsuccessful applications in previous years by each candidate.
b) The amount of work a member has done for the club.
c) The ability to complete the full marathon distance.
In the event of any criteria eliminating too many candidates that criteria will be omitted after the appropriate place(s) have been allocated at that stage.
Worked Example:
Should 4 members be unsuccessful in their personal applications and one has previously received a club entry place, the remaining 3 will go forward to condition 3.
If two of those have run the London Marathon before using the normal entry process, the first club place will be allocated to the remaining one.
The remaining two, who have competed in the London Marathon before are then judged and voted upon by the Club Committee using the ‘Short List’ criteria for the last club place remaining.
