There was a good turnout from the Club at the 25th Belvoir Challenge on Saturday write's our man on the spot….Steve Leafe. The general consensus was that the recent wet weather had made the course even more challenging than usual, but the after race food was as good as ever. Pride of place has to go to Ray Mortlock who completed the 26 mile long race in 85th place out of 336 finishers in a time of just over 4 hours 48 minutes, as part of his training for his first ultra race which is coming up over the next few weeks.
The other SDRR runners all completed the 15 mile route, were just over 1,000 competitors completed the course. Although he faded slightly over the last mile or so, Steve Leafe was happy with a time under 2hrs 11 minutes which was good enough to secure 27th place. He was followed home by Christian Glover, who despite coming straight to the race from a night shift at work, completed the course in just over 2hrs 28 minutes, in 68th position. Just 4 minutes behind Christian,  Tracey Glover also ran brilliantly to get in the top hundred, in 97th position overall, and 19th in the women’s standings. Gary Price, using the event as part of his training for the London Marathon was next home with a time of 2 hrs 34 minutes earning him 104th position. Paul Glover, in his first season of competitive running, also performed really well in 151st position, in a time of just under 2hrs 48 minutes. Nikki Reeves also had a top 200 finish in 193rd in a time a shade over 3 hours.
Lisa Wright also had a great run in 3hrs 47 mins for 347th place; whilst Sam Skidmore and Jenny Tattersall made light of the conditions to finish in 3hrs 55 minutes for 371st and 373rd positions. Heidi Elliott was next home, in under 4hrs 7 minutes, and 426th position, a few minutes ahead of Mark Skidmore, who was 492nd, in a time of 4hrs 21 minutes. Challenge regulars, and Club stalwarts, Linda and Steve Tempest ran the course together, finishing in 4hrs 23 minutes for 503rd and 504th positions. Showing good teamwork by running together to take on the tough course, Carloyn Ife, Kerry Jackson, Cath Johnston and Jenny Cross finished in 756th, 757th, 758th and 764th position, in 5hrs 44 minutes.
