There were some fine performances from SDRR runners at the latest Leicestershire Summer League race on Sunday, the Prestwold 10k.In a field of 649 finishers Andy Orme led the club home, with his time of 40.33 being a personal best and gaining him 126th position. Steve Leafe followed him home in 41.17, in 142nd position whilst Glenn Smith was another runner to gain a personal best, with a time of 42.16 being good enough to earn him 171st place. One of the performances of the day came from Ray Udall, returning from a spell out with illness in 46 minutes and 17 seconds, which earned him 3rd place in the V60 category, and 295th overall. Another PB came for Paul Glover, who has improved steadily since his racing debut for the club 12 months ago – Paul had a time of 46.58 and finished in 313rd position.
Meanwhile Tracey Glover sacrificed her own chance of a PB to pace Laura Harper around to a big new PB, with both Laura and Tracey finishing in 48.49 and 390th and 391st place respectively. Not to be outshone, Katharine Smith also recorded a personal best time of 57.30 in 538th position.
Slightly further afield Louise Insley, fresh from running the fastest women’s time in the Washlands Relays, was in action on Sunday in the BMAF’s 5km Championship at Horwich. Over a really blustery, town centre course, Louise’s 18.53 gave her 1st place in her age group & consolidated her place in the upper reaches of the national rankings for her age group.
