Sunday saw the latest race in the Burton & District Summer Road Racing League, which also doubled as the latest leg in the 2015 Club Championship, the challenging Burton 10k. 27 of the Club’s runners were among the 254 who finished the race. Pride of place goes to Christina Hawtin, whose excellent 40.49 gave her 3rd place in the women’s race and anchored the women’s team of Nikki Reeves (46.51 & 9th place) and Kelly Knight (47.09 & 12th place) to the runner-up spot in the women’s team race. The men’s team comprising Dominic Sharman (37.00 & 7th place overall), Chris Pearson (37.37 & 9th place), Andy Hawtin (37.53 & 10th place) & a well deserving Andy Orme (41.21 & 36th place) were also runners-up in the men’s team race. For reigning Men’s Club Champion, Dom Sharman, it was a really welcome return to form and even at this relatively late stage of the season indicated he can still have a big influence on the destiny of this year’s championship.
Colin Mee, who has had an injury affected season, was next in 41.38 with Chris Gunstone & Stuart Halsey close on his heels in times of 41.50 & 41.52 respectively. Andy Windle stopped the clock next in 44.13 & 65th place overall with Steve Leafe 3 places further back in a time of 44.29 before there were some more close inter-club battles involving race debutant Daryl Invine-Rawlins, Tom Eyre, Paul Glover & Ray Udall who finished within 10 places of one another in times of 46.24, 46.36, 46.59 & 47.04 respectively. Tracey Glover gave her usual battling performance in finishing in 15th place in the women’s race in a time of 48.38 with Laura Storer-Harper 2 places behind in a well-run 49.10.  The improving Richard Ward consolidated his place at the top of his division with a battling 51.06 before another who has had a really solid season, Tim Argent, crossed the line in 51.28 ahead of Steve Tempest in 52.29 and Stuart Reeves in 53.31. Giving everything to the cause Seran Bradley, Karen Wilks, Kerry Ward, Alison Shearer & Linda Tempest all ran well to finish in 56.52, 56.54, 58.55, 59.31 & 69.34 respectively.
