SDRR runners were out in force on Sunday for the latest Run Derby series event, the Shelton Striders 10k, with 18 runners competing. There were some excellent performances all around, not least from Dominic Sharman, who ran superbly to finish 9th in 35.37 seconds, the fastest 10k time by any SDRR runner this year. He was closely followed in 13th by Andy Hawtin, with a time of 36.27. Running his first race for a few months, Jack Leafe didn’t quite get his pacing right, but still finished in 26th place in 37.58. The next three finishers for the Club were well matched, with Chris Gunstone just coming out on top, in 56th place. His time of 39.47 was his first “sub 40” 10k for a number of years and also gained him 1st place in the vet 55 category. Christina Hawtin, also beat the 40 minute barrier in a time of 39.52, which gained her 58th position, whilst Andy Orme was close behind in 63rd place in a time of 40.08.
Simon Reynolds has been running well recently and ran another good race to finish 72nd in 41.06, followed by Steve Leafe in 81st in 41.45 and Nigel Atkins, who ran a season’s best of 43.45, to come in 100th position. Kelly Knight was next home with another good time of 44.08 in 106th place, while Paul Glover took 3 minutes off his time in last year’s race, which gained him 122nd place in a time of 44.39, ahead of wife Tracey in 144th in 46.49. The next three runners for SDRR all took advantage of the excellent running conditions to record super PBs, with Laura Harper 150th in 47.10; Tim Argent 174th in 48.43 and Karen Wilks in 230th in 52.38. Not far behind was Alison Shearer, who ran another good race in 259th position with a time of 54.53. The final runner home for the club was Cath Johnston, having been taking part in triathlons recently, who came in 352nd in a time of 1.15.03.
Carolyn Ife, Felicity Towns and Kerry Jackson competed in the Chester Marathon and Metric Marathon on Sunday 4 October. Carolyn ran the 16.4 mile (26.2km) Metric Marathon in a time of 3 hours 13 mins which she was pleased with having to drop from the full marathon distance due to injury and time off training. Felicity and Kerry ran the full marathon distance and Felicity ran an excellent time of 5 hours 17 mins gaining a new PB by 3 minutes! Kerry unfortunately had to abandon the race as an old knee injury flared up meaning she could not continue.
All three thoroughly enjoyed the day as it was a very well organised race and well worth doing.
