Many had mixed feelings on Sunday morning with the cancellation of the first race in this year’s Leicestershire Road Runners League after Saturday night saw almost 90 members, family & friends attend the Club’s Annual Presentation Evening.
The event, kindly sponsored by Trasu Support Ltd. at Conkers Waterside, was the culmination of an excellent season for the Club in which both individuals & teams were well to the fore in local & regional races. Dominic Sharman & Christina Hawtin were well deserving winners of the main prizes as they were crowned Men’s & Women’s Champions. Dominic was Division 1 winner with Chris Pearson runner-up. Stuart Halsey had a great second half to the season as he surged through to take the Division 2 title from the ultra-consistent Andy Orme. Tom Eyre, in his debut season, clinched the Division 3 title from the fast improving Kelly Knight with Paul Glover, another really consistent performer, taking the Division 4 title from Malcolm Moore. One of the closest season long battles involved Richard Ward & David Lunn with Richard, another in his debut season, just edging it in the final quarter of the season. Stuart Reeves, another who came through in the second half of the season, clinched the Division 6 title. Four individuals, Paul & Tracey Glover, Tim Argent & Richard Ward, received well deserved recognition as they completed the grand slam of competing in every one of the year’s championship races. The final main awards, in which there were a great many contenders, was for the most improved male & female runners. Richard Ward & Laura Harper were, well deservedly, awarded these accolades.
