A number of SDRR runners ran in the Carsington Water trail race run over an undulating course of 7.66 miles around the reservoir. They acquitted themselves well in a field of 367 runners, with the ever consistent Andy Orme finishing in 25th position in a course PB of 54.14. Steve Leafe ran steadily to break the hour mark and follow Andy home in a time of 58.30, which was good enough for 47th place. Next back for the club was Gary Price in 152nd position with a time of 1.07.31. Gary had been held in traffic so had to sprint to the start after the runners had left, and his chip time showed he would have finished around 20 places higher if he’d started with the main field. Making his debut for the club, in his longest race to date, Tony Richards had a cracking run to finish in 176th place in 1.10.44. Tony was closely followed by Dave Lunn, taking a break from his epic series of half marathons, who finished strongly in 186th position in 1.11.50. Club stalwart, Cath Johnston, made light of the hilly conditions and warm weather, to complete the course in 1.38.25, earning her 353rd place.
Further afield, Jack Leafe ran in the Royal Berkshire 10k in Reading, and whilst he was slightly disappointed with his time of 37.04, it was still good enough to earn him 9th position in a field of over 1,600 runners.”
