SDRR were well represented amongst the prize winners at the Gate Gallop on
Sunday, with Caley Parnell and Shane Chapman both taking well deserved
trophies. On a tough off road 10k course, Caley showed just how much
improvement she has made this year by becoming 5th female overall winning
the Senior female category prize in a chip time of 49m 54s, whilst Shane,
who has been one of the club’s most consistent performers over the past few
years, was 4th male home in 40m 10s, winning the 1st senior male trophy.
Another runner in a rich vein of form at present is Stuart Halsey, who
finished in 10th position overall in 41.49, which also earned him 2nd place
in the vet 50 category. Stuart was closely followed by John Morgan, in 13th
place overall in a time of 42.38 and the ever consistent Andy Orme in 21st
place in a time of 43.49. The men’s team scorers in this BDSL event were
completed by Jason Atkins, who ran well for 32nd place overall in a time of
46.13 and Adrian Middleton, enjoying the off road terrain in 37th position
in 47.04, which put him just ahead of Steve Leafe in 38th in 47.18.
Paul and Tracey Glover, as has happened quite a lot recently, were closely
matched, with Paul just coming out on top this time in 60th place overall in
50.42, two places ahead of Tracey, whose time of 51.22 was enough to place
her as 7th overall female, and 2nd in her vet category. Close behind was
club stalwart Gary Price, pleased to be finding some form in a time of 51.30 in
65th place overall. Steve Tempest was next back for the club, rolling back
the years to finish in 106th position in 56.13, followed by Robin Thorne,
recovered from a hamstring niggle, in 121st in 58.06, and Karen Wilks in
127th position in 58.41. Alison Shearer was next home for the club, with her
time of 1.02.10 putting her in 153rd after a successful sprint for the line.
Hannah Wintrip, in her first season of racing for the club, ran creditably
for 177th position in a time of 1.06.56, followed by Linda Tempest in 191st
in a time of 1.11.13. Barry Saunders has been suffering with injury but
nevertheless completed the course in 202nd position in 1.17.56, and Alison
Jackson completed the SDRR list by finishing in a time of 1.35.05 in 217th
position.”
Much further afield Jack Leafe showed what a good runner he’s developed into as he won the Bracknell 5km in 18.00.
