Prize day for Road Runners
Sunday’s Burton 10k was the latest race in this year’s Burton & District Summer Road Racing League and the Club were well represented in the after race prize giving. Louise Insley’s superb 38.52 gave her victory in the women’s race with Chris Pearson in 36.24, gaining a well-deserved runner-up place in the men’s race, after recently being hampered by injury. Another who has had an excellent season, Stuart Halsey, continued his form with 39.46 giving him 1st place in the MV50 category. Showing the Club’s strength in depth the Club’s men’s and women’s teams also clinched the team prizes. In addition to Louise Insley the women’s team comprised Kelly Knight, an excellent 5th in the women’s race in 42.22 and the redoubtable Tracey Glover, 12th in the women’s race in 48.02.  The victorious men’s team comprised Chris Pearson, Rob Eaton in 4th in an excellent 36.49, Andy Hawtin in a hard-working 7th in 38.02 and John Morgan’s 39.01 and 14th place, gaining just reward for his efforts.
Andy Orme ran well for 33rd place overall in 40.45 with reigning Club Champion, Dom Sharman, making a really welcome racing reappearance, not far behind in 36th place in 41.02. There was then a really close battle between Andy Windle and Tom Bradley as they stopped the clock in finishing times of 41.25 & 41.28 respectively. Matt Clemson’s 42.38 was a good performance over a challenging course as were Nigel Atkin’s 43.17 and Steve Leafe’s 44.20. Peter Barsby and Gary Price probably gave their best performances of the year as they finished in 47.11 and 47.34 respectively. Not far behind was Paul Glover in 47.51 with Tim Argent battling well for his 48.55. Also giving everything was Laura Harper in 49.18, which gave her an excellent 14th place in the women’s race. There was also a close battle between Graeme Blackshaw and Matt Murkin as they finished in 53.40 and 53.59 respectively. Also close were Stuart Reeves and Tony Richards as they finished in 54.38 and 54.44. Seran Bradley, Alison Shearer and Club Chairman, Inge Moore gave everything as they completed the finishers for the Club in 55.27, 58.43 and 71.30 respectively.
