Mixing it with the best!
Sunday saw 23 members of South Derbyshire Road Runners join almost a 1000 others on the start line of one of the most popular races in the region, the Wilne 10k. It was a measure of how much the Club has progressed in recent years as both men’s and women’s teams finished 5th in their respective team races, ahead of some of the largest Clubs in the region. Chris Pearson led the Club’s runners home in a superb chip time of 35.31 for 45th place overall. Only 4 places behind was Rob Eaton, who stopped the clock in an excellent 35.59 with Andy Hawtin also running well for his 36.41 in 65th. Jack Leafe, making a really welcome appearance, finished in 86th place in 37.43 with John Morgan gaining a well-deserved top 100 finish in 38.15. Louise Insley continued her remarkably consistent season as she won the WV45 prize in a time of 38.29 ahead of another, Stuart Halsey, who has also had an excellently consistent season, as he recorded a chip time of 38.52. Stalwart, Andy Orme finished in 40.04, just missing out on the sub-40 benchmark before Kelly Knight led the Club’s women home in an excellent time of 41.20. Steve Leafe & Nigel Atkins had a tight battle as they finished in times of 42.33 and 42.51 respectively. The next two finishers, Tracey Glover and Laura Harper, probably gave their best performances of the season as they stopped the clock in times of 45.29 and 46.13. For Laura it was a well-deserved PB for the distance. Paul Glover was next across the line in 46.43 before Malcolm Moore crossed the line ahead of Tim Argent but finished behind on chip times, as Tim recorded 48.11 to Malcolm’s 48.40. Robin Thorne, Karen Wilks and Seran Bradley all ran well as they recorded 52.44, 53.22 and 53.48 respectively before the tightest inter-club race involving Stuart Reeves and Alison Shearer with Stuart edging it with 56.11 to Alison’s 56.14. Hannah Wintrip recorded a well-earned 59.57 before Inge Moore’s 66.59 and Pauline Cooper’s 69.06 completed the Club’s finishers on a terrific day for the Club.
Not all of the Club’s runners were in action at Wilne with Gary Price recording an excellent 77.53 in the undulating John Fraser 10 miler.
