Andy out in front.
There has been a relatively slow start, turn out wise, to the Club’s 2017 Championship with many of the Club’s runners concentrating on putting the finishing touches to their training for spring marathons. This has allowed some of the Club’s less heralded runners to lead the Club’s contingent home and this was the case on Sunday as the super reliable Andy Orme had the honour of being the first back of the Club’s 15 runners at the Desford 5. Andy’s competitive chip time of 32:54 was good enough for 105th place overall. Jenny Laing is well on schedule for the London Marathon as her 33:15 and 110th place finish confirmed. Steve Leafe, is another in good form at present, and he followed up a terrific performance at the Reading Half Marathon last weekend with a great 33:33 showing here. Nigel Atkins also ran well for his 35:03 with super vet Colin Mee not far behind in 35:22. Another marathon bound athlete, Paul Glover was next as he stopped the clock in 37:10 with the resurgent Becky Atkins close in 37:29. Peter Barsby ran well to finish next. Unfortunately, at time of writing no finishing time was available for Peter. Tracey Glover, getting back to form, finished in 38:30 with Laura Harper tracking her all of the way in 38:39. MV60, Malcolm Moore ducked under 40 minutes with 39:33 with Robin Thorne given a ‘gun to tape’ time of 41:48. Seran Bradley and Emily Atkins are both improving as their 43:38 and 45:52 showings here confirm before Karen Wilks and Inge Moore gave everything to complete the Club’s finishers in 52:59 and 55:23 respectively.
