In a busy weekend of racing four of the Club’s athletes were in action at the Derby Pride Park 10k. Lining up with 3517 other runners there was prize winning performances from Chris Gunstone and Louise Insley whose times of 39.38 and 40.35 were good enough to secure, respectively, the 1st MV55 and 2nd WV40 prizes. Gavin Horton continued his recent improvement to cross the finishing line in Pride Park in 42.41 and 281st place with Dave Renshaw completing the finishers for the Club with a very solid 47.16.
The most challenging action of the weekend took place over the 26.2 miles marathon distance with Mark Coombes and Kelly Knight tackling the classic distance in Sunday’s Shakespeare Marathon in Stratford upon Avon. Both should be well pleased with their performances with chip times of 3.42.43 and 3.51.36 and 190th and 268th respectively. Spare a thought for Steve Leafe who was also scheduled to do the race but pulled out a couple of days beforehand with injury problems.
