Chris passes the Uttoxeter Half Marathon challenge!
In good running conditions a good field of 360 runners lined up on the start line of the second race in this year’s Burton and District Summer Road Race series, the Uttoxeter Half Marathon. Over what is recognized as one of the most challenging half marathon courses around, Chris Mason carried on his good form from the London Marathon to lead the 8 strong Club contingent home in 27th place in a time of 1.29.03. Chris’s performance was also good enough to give him the 1st MV60 prize. Next home was Andy Orme, who improves with every race, in a very creditable 1.35.28 and 58th place and the very significant scalps of teammates Colin Mee and Ray Udall. At the end of a titanic struggle these two finished in 77th & 78th places in times of 1.37.43 and 1.37.53 respectively. Slowly edging his way back to full race fitness Roger Matthews finished next in 1.39.55 ahead of a disappointed, but injury handicapped, Gavin Horton in 1.46.16. On this occasion Gavin just got the better of Christina Cooper who performed brilliantly to finish 16th in the women’s race in a time of 1.46.21. Still feeling the London Marathon in his legs Gary Price completed the finishers for the Club with a hard run 1.54.32
