Colin looks sharp!
Despite there being a slight lull in Championship races this has not prevented the Club’s runners from being very active (and amongst the prizes) in local races. On the 10th July 2013 the Club entered, for the first time, two teams in the Moorway’s Masters Relays. Over a tight, multi terrain course of 2.5km Colin Mee was the star performer on the night with his 9.07 the fastest time recorded in the MV55 category.  Colin’s efforts gave our MV55 team a flying start which was continued by Chris Mason (9.33) and Chris Gunstone (9.38) to give the team 1st place overall in their age category. Not to be outdone our team of Inge Moore (12.50), Carolyn Ife (13.07) and Cath Johnson (15.51) in the WV45 category performed brilliantly to take 3rd place in their category. Inge, despite running in a higher age group, recorded the 5th fastest time overall in the WV45 category.
Last Friday night four of the Club’s runners were on the start line with 341 others at Elvaston Country Park for the annual Tara Kinder 10k. In hot, steamy conditions, over a 3 lap off road course, Gerry O’Brien was first back in 22nd place in a time of 39.50. Not far behind was the ever improving Andy Orme, who built on a recent Parkrun PB, to record a PB for the distance of 40.50 for 33rd place. There was then a very close inter-family, inter-generational battle between Jack & Steve Leafe with Jack just getting the better with 43.47 to Steve’s 43.49. Steve had the comfort of recording a season’s best time for the distance in what, to date, has been an injury hampered season. Cath Johnson completed the finishers for the Club with a well run 71.19.
