Louise Insley continued her terrific recent form with a brilliant PB of 30.23 in last Wednesday’s Joy Cann 5. The performance was good enough to give Louise 2nd place in the women’s race & the 1st V40 prize. Once ratified the performance should also be good enough to move Louise up to a top 10 place in the age group rankings for the distance.
On Sunday 21st July, Chris Mason travelled to the Horspath track in Oxford to take part in the British Masters Athletic Federation 10,000m track championship. It was a track racing debut for Chris and, on a hot, blustery day, the absence of tarmac & hills and the speed the early leaders started was a bit disconcerting. By the 25th lap, after being lapped twice by the winner in his age group who recorded an amazing 35.46, Chris was glad the officials had kept an accurate count of the laps he’d done and was reasonably happy with his 39.55 time. The time meant Chris was 4th overall in the race and in the MV60 age group and 2nd in the Midland Masters AC 10,000m track championship, which was incorporated in the race. A very unusual experience and for some reason very hard work. For more info about masters athletics go to www.midlandmasters.com or www.bmaf.org.uk.
