Louise continues to excel, Carolyn & Gary ‘Double or Quit’ and our hard boys get wet!
The pre-race publicity for Sunday’s Wilne 10k was certainly justified by the performances of Louise Insley, Shane Chapman & Steve Leafe who all recorded PBs for the distance. In conditions that were conducive to quick running and over a flat, fast 2 lap course, Louise continued her superb recent form to record a chip time of 38.03 for 6th place in the women’s race and 1st place in the Derbyshire AAA & Midlands Masters Championships & 2nd place in the Midlands Champs, which were all incorporated in the overall race.  Shane has developed brilliantly this season and his 39.31 was good enough for 136th place out of 835 finishers. Steve performance of 42.07 and a top 200 finish was well earned reward for this hardworking Club stalwart.
In between these top performances Chris Mason was in steady form to record 39.44 for 140th place. A performance that was also good enough to clinch the overall 1st MV60 prize & 1st place in the Midlands Masters Vets Championship. Paul Chapman, who also continues to improve with every race, ran well to finish in 152nd position in a time of 40.21. Andy Orme, despite being in the middle of heavy training for the upcoming Chester Marathon, put in another consistent performance to record 41.13 for 168th place. Although not recorded as a PB in the formal ‘Run Britain’ results Club records indicate that Jack Leafe’s 41.52 was also a PB for the distance.  Good times for 5k indicate that the youngster has the ability to significantly further amend his 10k times in the near future.
Samantha Skidmore was next to cross the finishing line for the Club in a hard run 51.08 followed by Nicola Thompson, who got in some excellent training for the Birmingham Half Marathon in October, in running 54.48. Mark Skidmore completed the finishers for the Club with a hard working 66.00 run.
On Saturday Gary Price and Carolyn Ife ran the ‘Double or Quit’ race organized by Ilkeston RC. Being the hardy competitors they are both ran the 10 mile race (the double) rather than the 5 mile (or quit).
Gary was 45th overall and 4th in his age category in a time of 1.20.36. Carolyn was 104th overall and 3rd in her age category in a time of 1.41.12. It was Carolyn’s debut at the 10mile distance. Not content with ‘double or quitting’ on Saturday Gary ran the John Fraser 10 today (results not yet available)
The previous Sunday Andy Orme, Shane Chapman and Paul Chapman represented the Club in the Moulton 10k. Over a challenging, undulating course through the Northant’s countryside, including the crossing of a shallow ford at about 8km, Shane led the trio of yellow vested heroes home in 40:41, followed by Andy in 40:53 and Paul in 42:26. Our intrepid crew enjoyed the race particularly the well deserved flapjack at the end. Whisper it but this was part of a titanic weekend for the trio with a Parkrun on Saturday, this race on Sunday and a new off road race at Rugely on Monday…………what stars.
