It was a beautiful spring morning with the promise of perfect running conditions as the thousands of runners gathered on the various starts for the 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon.
Amongst those lucky enough to get places in this year’s event were 6 of the Club’s finest. While the sunny weather made it hot work for the runners the bright weather brought out the crowds, estimated at 650,000, along the whole of the route and made the iconic landmarks that the London Marathon is famous for look their superb best.
It was Chris Mason who led the Club’s contingent home with 3.08.29 and a superb 5th place overall in the MV60 category. There was then an excellent marathon PB from Andy Orme as he stormed up the Mall to stop the clock in 3.22:49 just 24 hours after he warmed up for the big event by completing the Greenwich parkrun.
Not far behind was Simon Reynolds who also performed brilliantly for 3.24.00 before Gary Price recorded another PB with a well run 4.08:39. Again there very little time before ultra distance specialist Rob Belcher found the welcome sanctuary of the finish in 4.09:17.
A more experienced marathoner, Ron Lane, completed the Club finishers with a hard working 4.42:21 to bring down the curtain on another superbly organised & atmospheric event for another year. Don’t forget the on line entry process for 2015 starts soon!
