Dominic back on top!
Sunday saw 29 runners from the Club line up with nearly 500 others in the 4th leg of this year’s Leicestershire Road Running League, the Desford 6. In wet & windy conditions it was Dominic Sharman who led the way home, with his first victory in this year’s Club Championship in a chip time of 35.48 and a superb 26th place overall. The race was notable for the close interclub battles and this was very much the case in the battle between Chris Pearson & Andy Hawtin with Chris’s 36.10 & 34th place just edging it to Andy’s 36.17 & 36th place.  Next home was James Cassidy who ran well for his 37.01 & 44th place overall before the ultimate tight race between Jenny Laing & Christina Cooper. On chip time, only a second separated the two as Jenny won this particular battle in 39.21 to Christina’s 39.22 for excellent 3rd & 4th place finishes in the women’s race. Both Andy Orme & Steve Leafe continued their excellent recent form in recording top 100 finishes in times of 39.46 & 40.07 respectively.
The next tight battle was a family affair with Dave Eyre’s 41.36 just getting the better, for maybe the last time, of son Tom’s 41.40 with Mark Coombes finishing just a second further back in 41.41. Tracey Glover, in the latter stages of her training for the Manchester Marathon, ran strongly for 23rd place in the women’s race in a chip time of 44.42. Ray Udall continues to defy the years in recording 45.10 before Malcolm Moore, rejoicing in running injury free, finished ahead of Paul Glover ‘gun to tape’ but behind on chip times of 47.16 to 47.08 respectively. Gary Price, looking in good form for the upcoming London Marathon, stopped the clock in 47.25 before Tim Argent, improving as he gains more racing experience, was next in a solid 48.54. Lisa Wright gave her usual maximum effort in recording 50.02 before very little separated Richard Ward, Dave Renshaw, Mark Nixon & David Lunn as times of 51.25, 51.27, 51.31 & 51.55 respectively confirm.
Chris Morton ran well for his 53.00 before three runners, Seran Bradley, Karen Wilkes & Kerry Ward, all making excellent racing debuts for the Club, recorded 53.33, 54.44 & 55.28 respectively. Another with limited racing experience, Suki Kaur, gave her all for her 57.28 before the battling Linda Mason completed the finishers for the Club in 61.22.
