PBs Galore!!
24 runners from the Club were in action on Sunday in the latest race in the 2015 Club Championship, the Wilne 10k. Helped by a fast, flat course, excellent running conditions & a really competitive field of almost 1000 runners, 11 of the South Derbyshire contingent had the immense satisfaction of running PBs for the distance. The first 4 finishers for the Club in the men’s race all had the satisfaction of recording Run Britain PBs with Dominic Sharman again leading the way & reaffirming his return to form with a superb 66th place finish in a chip time of 35.56. Close, as they have been all season, were Andy Hawtin & Chris Pearson, who performed brilliantly for 36.12 & 36.17 & 69th & 72nd places respectively.   Probably the performance of the day though came from Shane Chapman, who has diversified into triathlons this season, in recording 36.54 for an excellent 91st place. Andy Orme also took advantage of the excellent conditions to record 39.41, just giving him the edge on this occasion over one of the Club’s athletes of the year, Chrissie Hawtin, whose chip time of 39.49 was good enough for 15th place out of 370 finishers in the women’s race & a really well deserved PB. Chris Gunstone, who has shown his prowess on the track over the shorter distances this summer, ran well for 40.21 as did Stuart Halsey, only 10 secs back in 40.31. Similarly, to Stuart Halsey, Colin Mee, has had an injury hampered season, but he ran creditably here for 41.06 before Kelly Knight recorded an excellent PB of 43.51 with James Cassidy, on pace making duties, recording an identical chip time.
Paul Glover continued his season long improvement with a PB of 44.46 before Tracey Glover, with her best performance since her spring marathon, also recording a PB of 45.33. Malcolm Moore was next to stop the clock in 46.37 before a glut of PBs & some excellent performances with Tim Argent, Richard Ward & David Lunn recording 49.35, 50.03 & 50.47 respectively. Not far behind was Stuart Reeves with 51.44 & Seran Bradley with 53.26 before another excellent & well deserved PB of 54.27 from Maria Allen. Linda Mason, Inge Moore & Club debutant, Samantha McLaughlin performed brilliantly in completing the finishers for the Club in 61.29, 67.20 & 70.54 respectively.
Running for her first claim club, Heanor RC, Louise Insley confirmed her high national ranking status by recording 37.43, which gave her an excellent 4th place in a really competitive women’s race.
